El Avellano is a joint venture that offers natural products using the Chilean hazelnut. Its aim is to protect the community native forest and create a source of jobs in the community.
Some of the products made by the agriculture cooperative are hazelnut flour and coffee, as well as toasted hazelnuts that can be found from April on.
Specifically, the Agriculture Cooperative will become a purchasing authority in the territory, not only tied to the gathering of hazelnuts, but also to historical products of the Pehuenche culture, and which have a place in the domestic and international markets. These products have been gathered and consumed for generations in the territory, including different types of mushrooms (Morchella, Changles, Digueñes, and others); fruit such as peaches, apples, cherries in the gardens of their homes; and the pine nut as a primary source of food with a high probability of reaching the domestic market.
