The El Avellano community is located in the mountainous area of the Alto Biobío regional division, in the Biobío Region.
The project consists of building an 83-m2 Tourist Rest Stop which will be culturally relevant, inclusive, and designed jointly with the whole community. The aim of the project is to increase the community´s income, at the same time preserving the group’s Pehuenche culture.
The Tourist Rest Stop will allow residents to market foods made from the Chilean hazelnut, as well as local handicrafts and gastronomical products. It will be equipped with a sales room, café, and public bathrooms, and will be built on the same land where the current hazelnut processing plant is situated. The company will accompany the community in the development of this project, providing assistance in human capital and governance processes. The project will benefit 66 people in total, all from the El Avellano indigenous community, who will also have access to a meeting space, which will be illuminated using clean energy sources and whose parking and access areas will be compatible with the needs of disabled users. The project will also be part of the community´s tourist circuit in the region.
In 2020, progress was made in the detailed design of the infrastructure and the preparation of information to be presented to the relevant authorities, while the physical construction will begin in 2021.
