This is the testimony by one of the fortunate employees of the Enel Group, who was awarded one of the 30 cutting edge 100% electric powered cars, with a 250 km driving range, through a successful open contest, that incorporated a set of incentives towards vehicle purchase.
This marked a new milestone; electric mobility is a reality and its widespread use throughout the country is about to begin. This is the largest fleet delivery of 100% electric automobiles in Latin America.
“Today we are celebrating a very important milestone for Enel, which shall mark the difference between a before and an after in the widespread use of electric transport in Chile. Through our employees we shall place 30 electric vehicles in circulation in the streets of Santiago. This is the largest delivery of this type of vehicle in Latin America and confirms that electric mobility is viable and attractive pricewise, in comparison with conventional automobiles. Additionally, were are taking a very important step in the real contribution towards decontaminating our city”, indicated Nicola Cotugno, Enel Chile’s CEO, at the event delivering the fleet.
During that same ceremony, Energy minister Andrés Rebolledo, sustained that, “Although electric vehicles are still an industry under development, they are expected to become the international standard towards 2030, considering the fact that they can be up to four times more efficient than conventional vehicles, since they are silent, they require less maintenance and are friendlier towards the environment. In order to be coherent with respect to the actions we are already taking, and to identify the gaps that are yet to be filled, we are preparing a national strategy towards fostering electric transport, together with the Ministries of Transportation and Environment, which we will be submitting during the first semester of this year, and in which we are being backed by different players from the private world.”
