  • The thermal power system uses a heat pump that harnesses ambient energy in the air through an aerothermal process, allowing an estimated energy cost savings of 66% compared to natural gas.

Santiago, 23 June 2022 - The Colegio Alianza Francesa de Chicureo has inaugurated a new semi-Olympic swimming pool, equipped with Enel X's aerothermal water heating technology for improved operational and energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Enel X and its partner Energy Tracking installed an efficient thermal power system with three main aerothermal heat pumps, which use ambient energy to heat the pool and dehumidify the air inside the building.

This electrical pool-heating system will reduce energy consumption by 144,983 kWh per year and reduce costs by 66%, or 14,000,000 pesos, compared to a natural gas-based solution.

"Today, we are seeing the increased deployment of renewable energy technologies in different sectors seeking to improve energy efficiency, lower costs, and have more sustainable operations. The aerothermal technology installed at the Alliance Française School fulfills all of these criteria as it doesn't emit greenhouse gases,” said Enel X's General Manager Karla Zapata.

Driving energy efficiency in schools

An increasing number of sectors in our society are implementing energy-efficient solutions to promote environmental awareness.

Enel X's aerothermal technology implemented at the Alliance Française School will provide the same heat levels as an oil or gas boiler for a third of the energy consumption. The project also includes a real-time monitoring system that can control different variables of the main and secondary equipment of the thermal power system, depending on consumption and outdoor conditions.

"Using renewable energies to heat our school swimming pool will enable us to reduce operational costs and energy consumption and contribute to environmental protection. We have already taken other environmental measures, such as installing 600 solar panels at both school sites in 2017. Being an agent of change is one of our priorities, and we want to teach our students to be eco-responsible and to be proactive in implementing new solutions that meet our society's energy needs," said Marie Dechaseaux, Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Alliance Française de Santiago Educational Corporation.
