Enel Distribución working on over 200 outage points to progressively restore power

Santiago, August 2, 2024 – Due to the storms affecting the Metropolitan Region, with strong wind gusts and rain, Enel Distribución reports more than 200 outage points in the medium voltage network within its concession area, which includes 33 municipalities. As of 11:00 a.m. this morning, around 580,000 customers are still without power, and efforts are underway to restore service as quickly as possible.

“We are facing an unprecedented situation. There has not been emergency of this magnitude since the 2010 earthquake. A large number of transmission lines are affected, so all our resources have been deployed. At this time, we do not have a final assessment of the infrastructure affected, but since the damage is so extensive, full restoration of service will be gradual and could take several days,” explains Víctor Tavera, CEO of Enel Distribución.

According to the Chilean Directorate of Meteorology, winds have reached gusts of up to 124 km/h across several parts of the capital city, particularly in the eastern zone, combined with rainfall, caused trees and large branches to fall, cutting power lines, bringing down light posts, and damaging electrical infrastructure. This has resulted in extensive and complex work to repair each of the outages.

Technical teams deployed in the field have been reinforced by up to 8 times more than on a normal day. Priority has been given to customers registered as electrodependents. They have access to preferential telephone assistance for the installation of generators in the field. So far, 55 generators have been delivered to electrodependent customers.

Enel Distribución will continue working at maximum operating capacity in the field and reinforcing its customer service channels until power is restored to all of its customers. Meanwhile, the company reiterates its call to the community to stay away from the power lines affected.
