Enel Distribución reports on the Metropolitan Region's power supply status due to rain and wind conditions
Published on Tuesday, 21 May 2024
Santiago, May 21, 2024—Since midday yesterday, several service interruptions have been caused by the weather and intense winds affecting the Metropolitan Region. As of 8:00 p.m. today, 5,015 customers are without power supply, mainly located in the municipalities of Huechuraba, La Florida, La Reina, and Las Condes.
According to the Chilean Meteorological Office, winds reached gusts of up to 46 km/hour in various sectors of the capital. In addition to the 38.4 mm of rainfall accumulated in Santiago, more than 2,300 points of failure were caused by falling trees and large branches, power line cuts, and damage to electrical infrastructure. Restoring each failure to normal has required extensive and challenging efforts.
The company has been working intensively since yesterday to recover from power outages. It will continue to be on the ground throughout the night and tomorrow, maintaining its operational capacity until all its customers' supply is restored.
Customers registered as electro-dependent have been prioritized and have access to preferential telephone assistance for on-site generator installations. Yesterday and today, 130 units were delivered.
Enel Distribución will continue working and maintaining its operational capacity to provide on-site assistance until supply to all its customers is restored.
