Santiago, December 7, 2023 – Enel Distribución will inspect approximately 500 kilometers of medium-voltage electrical lines across 32 municipalities in its concession area within the Metropolitan Region. This inspection is aimed at identifying sensitive points in the electrical system, in order to anticipate and prevent potential supply interruptions during adverse weather conditions.

This maintenance activity is performed by a specially equipped helicopter with state-of-the-art technology to identify areas in the network that require attention, for the purpose of defining preventive measures such as clearing trees that could potentially affect distribution lines in the coming months.

“Thanks to this type of monitoring, we are able to achieve high levels of efficiency and precision in the maintenance of our electrical infrastructure, utilizing thermography and 3D modeling of networks with laser technology. We hope that this action helps prevent potential incidents, especially related to weather events,” explains Víctor Balbontín, Operations Manager for Enel Distribución.

The aircraft flyovers in the inspection zones are carried out in compliance with all regulations and authorizations required by the Chilean Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) and consider minimum impact and inconvenience for residents. It is worth noting that the helicopter's trajectory will always follow the path of the power lines, and the equipment scanning the distribution network will not capture images of private property.

The inspections will take place from December 8-22, Monday to Friday, between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Thanks to this measure, which involves minimal intervention in the environment, the company expects to reinforce the service in its concession area and prevent potential outages that may occur, for instance, due to the growth of vegetation in certain areas, affecting distribution lines during the upcoming winter of 2024.
