As part of its annual maintenance plan

  • The activity contemplates preventive measures that seek to reduce the possibility of supply interruptions in the event of weather contingencies.
  • Inspection aircraft have state-of-the-art equipment, which allows the capture of high-definition photographs and videos, thermographs, and 3D modeling of the networks with laser technology.

Santiago, February 20, 2023. Enel Distribución began today the inspection of about 1,200 kilometers of medium voltage network in 33 communes of its concession area within the Metropolitan Region to detect sensitive points in the electric system and anticipate and prevent potential service interruptions.

Using drones, vans, and a helicopter specially equipped with state-of-the-art technology, we will identify the points of the grid that require attention. Thus define preventive maintenance work such as clearing tree species that may affect the distribution lines during the coming winter. The latter is possible thanks to technology that allows high levels of efficiency and precision in the maintenance of the electrical network, with minimal intervention in the environment, such as thermography and 3D modeling of the networks with laser technology.

The work involves aircraft overflights in the inspection areas, which are carried out in compliance with all regulations and authorizations required by the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) and consider the minimum impact and inconvenience to neighbors. The overflight trajectory will occur over the location of the power lines, and the equipment that scans the distribution network will not capture images of private property, respecting the community's privacy.

This action will improve the company's service, avoiding most of the failures caused, for example, by the growth of vegetation in specific areas of the capital.

The overflights began this day and will be carried out between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. During this period, customers and users can access all the necessary information (communes, days) about the aircraft route at https://www.enel.cl/es/conoce-enel/plan-de-invierno/monitoreo-aereo-de-redes.html.
