- This mentoring program is led by professionals from Enel Distribución's contractor companies. Through this initiative, the company aims to promote talent and enhance the labor integration of new technicians.
Enel Distribución's Center of Operational Excellence (CEO) celebrated the signing of the fifth version of the "Energy of the Future" educational program. This initiative enhances the training of students from technical high schools specializing in electricity. Representatives from contractor companies and sponsors of the project, Chile Dual and Sofofa, attended the event. During the meeting, it was agreed to provide technical support for developing internships, offer job vacancies for professional practice, and establish networks that promote the employment of future technicians.
"Energy of the Future" aims to enhance training for students from technical high schools specializing in electricity through theoretical and practical modules, as well as partnerships with institutions and companies within the energy sector. This year, 172 students from three high schools in the Enel Distribución concession area will participate, with 21% being female and including students from the School Integration Program (PIE).
"This program is crucial for Enel Distribución and our contractors, as it aims to train the next generation of electricians and engineers. Our goal is to equip these future professionals for a successful career," said Yanett Henríquez, head of Enel Distribución's Operational Excellence Center.
The initiative features an alternating model: a theoretical component is taught in high schools, while a practical component is implemented at the CEO, allowing students to learn in full-scale installations. Additionally, mentoring and simulations led by professionals from contractor companies are incorporated to provide real-world experience and enhance working relationships.
"I completed this program, and it significantly impacted my academic life. Thanks to this experience, I developed a passion for electricity and pursued a university career," shared Claudia Zúñiga, an electrical engineering student at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile.
The high schools participating in this edition are Liceo Bicentenario Manuel Plaza Reyes, Liceo Bicentenario Ignacio Domeyko, and Centro Educacional Alberto Hurtado. The training program will offer students insights into emerging technologies, including electromobility and distributed generation, as well as modules on Smart Meters and energized lines in pruning, among other relevant topics.
"This is a great opportunity for us as we finish fourth grade. I hope to study electrical engineering after high school," said Rubí Cubillos, an electricity student at Liceo Bicentenario de Lampa.
With Energía del Futuro, Enel Distribución reaffirms its commitment to a fair energy transition by addressing educational gaps and promoting technical training with a strong emphasis on safety, inclusion, and innovation.
