- Technical teams from Estación Central, San Joaquín, Til Til, Lo Barnechea, and Pudahuel gathered at the company's Operational Excellence Center to learn pruning techniques, identify electrical hazards, and promote more collaborative field work.
Enel Distribución's Operational Excellence Center is a training facility focused on electricity distribution activities. Its facilities host training courses designed to improve work techniques and reduce the risk of accidents among employees and contractors. It also welcomes study centers and institutions interested in learning about networks and their components.
This is the case for more than one hundred officials and technicians from the municipalities of Estación Central, San Joaquín, Til Til, Lo Barnechea, and Pudahuel who participated in a new training program focused on understanding how the electrical system in the city operates and its current challenges. The goal is to improve coordination between teams, especially when managing emergencies. These municipalities join others who have already participated in this type of activity and others at the Operational Excellence Center, such as Cerrillos, Huechuraba, Las Condes, and Colina. As a result, nearly 240 officials attended.
The workshop focused on reducing third-party exposure to electrical hazards and establishing technical and environmental criteria for urban tree management. "We are very interested in strengthening our relationships with municipalities and educating personnel working near our networks on technical aspects related to trees. Therefore, we developed a replicable training program that covers network types, safety, health, and vegetation pruning. This initiative aims to foster synergies for improved collaboration and more effective emergency responses," explains Bárbara Cornejo, Head of Environment at Enel Distribución.
“This initiative is vital for building trust, optimizing resources, and responding effectively to emergencies, thereby enhancing our city's resilience. Collaboration across organizations is key to success. The field team already possesses significant knowledge, but our interventions can be more impactful. Therefore, staying in contact, sharing experiences, and working in groups remain crucial," says Michel Arredondo, Head of Environment at the Municipality of San Joaquín.
The Operational Excellence Center has been gradually developed since 2019, expanding its spaces, equipment, and infrastructure with advanced technology and welcoming new stakeholders. Today, it functions as a training hub for electrical distribution, where work methods are refined and applied in conditions that mimic real field scenarios, aiming to improve excellence and safety among current and future industry professionals. It is accessible to students seeking to learn a trade and to public agencies and municipalities within Enel Distribución's concession area in the Metropolitan Region.
