As part of the resettlement review requested from the international company ERM, the Company evaluated the Economic and Social Impact (EIES) of living in poorly built houses inhabited by the families in the Doña Isidora Huertos sector. The study consisted of two stages: an initial diagnosis, gap analysis and stabilization of the resettlement process; the second one was impact identification, development of compensating measures and consultation with the relevant players. According to the results of the study, neutralizing measures corresponded to monetary compensations, developing social programs (actions included in the Plan for the Restoration of Livelihoods) and the implementation of a comprehensive home repair plan.

In 2019, as part of the above-mentioned project, Enel launched a plan to repair 88 houses inhabited by 326 members of the resettled families. The initial point of the project was a study carried out by CITEC, a technical organization that is part of the University of Biobío. CITEC was asked to identify housing problems and then list all the required repairs such as changing roof coverings, installing moisture barriers, thermal improvements of perimeter walls, installing interior ventilation systems, among others.

Apart from the repair project carried out by Enel in the municipality of Coronel and as part of the Plan for the Restoration of Livelihoods, the Company is now promoting the construction of community infrastructure for the resettled families. This has already been undertaken in the Huertos Familiares neighborhood and, in 2021, three venues in the Los Notros, Doña Isidora and Nuevo El Esfuerzo neighborhoods will be built taking into consideration sustainability criteria and circular economy. The three neighborhoods received numerous resettled families from the Bocamina surroundings. Thanks to this investment, communities that required special spaces will be able to improve their quality of life and their social capital.
