Enel develops multiple initiatives for the protection of biodiversity, which cover terrestrial, marine and coastal ecosystems and involve various species of flora and fauna, many of them classified in some category of conservation.

Here are some of these initiatives:

Book "Nature in our Plants"

With this book, we seek to promote the protection of our biodiversity.

SEE PROJECT
Conceptual design of artificial nests for terns in northern Chile

Terns are small, fast-flying, agile pelagic birds that live most of their lives offshore; however, during their breeding season, they gather in large nesting colonies in the deserts of Chile and Peru.

SEE PROJECT
Selection of "Flag Species" in our plants

Within the framework of the "Nature in Our Plants" Program, the Santiago Environment and Permits Area of HSEQ coordinated the selection process of the "Flag Species" that correspond to species of flora and fauna present inside our plants, which will be the representatives of our biodiversity during the HSEQ Environment activities that take place.

SEE PROJECT
Arbolado urbano y la red eléctrica

La electrificación es una necesidad cada vez más imperante, donde esta interacción red-arbolado solo irá creciendo. Reconociendo la importancia de los árboles para la sociedad, debemos hacer un manejo responsable.

VER PROYECTO
Hydroenergy by design and Ecosystem Service study

Enel has developed two important studies focused on the conservation of the natural resources and biodiversity of the Maule basin.

SEE STUDIES
Record of the presence of huemules at Laja Lagoon

An important discovery in terms of Biodiversity occurred in the surroundings of the Laja Lagoon, close to our southern hydroelectric plants (HPP Antuco, HPP Abanico and HPP El Toro), Biobío region. This is the confirmation of the presence of Huemul (Hippocamelus bisulcus), a species in danger of extinction, that hasn’t been recorded in more than 10 years in the area.

SEE PROJECT
Restocking native fish in the Upper Biobío

Native fish reproduction project for the development of a repopulation process in different stretches of the Biobío river. Likewise, it was planned to carry out a study of genetic variability of native fish, using a non-invasive method, based on the identification of small DNA fragments present in the environment (river).

SEE PROJECT
Reforestation of native species in Ralco

Unique plantation project in the country, reforestation with native tree species and protection of native species.

SEE PROJECT
Bats remote sensing

The Renaico Wind Farm, located in the Araucanía region, has developed a pilot device for remote sensing of bats (bats) inside. This in order to start a process of monitoring and data analysis to avoid possible collisions with the wind turbines.

SEE PROJECT
San Ignacio del Huinay Foundation

For the San Ignacio del Huinay Foundation, Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) constitute an instrument whose main objective is to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable.

SEE PROJECT
Harmonization of urban trees with power lines

In order to prevent the risk of falling trees, ensure the continuity of the electricity supply of its customers and contribute to caring for the environment, reducing future electric pruning and improving the quality of urban trees.
