- The project developed by Enel X will allow for annual energy production of 2,398 MWh at four agricultural operations in Parral and San Nicolás, located in Chile’s Maule and Ñuble regions, respectively, covering a total area of 980 hectares.
Chillán, May 29, 2025. This morning, Empresas Iansa and Enel X inaugurated a sophisticated PV solar project made up of four solar power plants supplying 100% renewable energy to four agricultural operations in central-southern Chile. The initiative includes the installation of 2,228 high-efficiency solar panels and is consistent with the Free Client agreement under which Enel Generación supplies power to the agri-food company.
This initiative aligns with the sustainable development goals of both companies, aiming to support the transition toward a more sustainable energy matrix. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, the project will achieve significant operational efficiencies in Iansa's agricultural fields.
The project, spearheaded by Enel X, includes one solar plant in the San Luis district of the Parral municipality in the Maule Region, and three others in the town of San Nicolás (Miraflores, San Juan, and Loncopán) in the Ñuble Region.
The total installed capacity amounts to 1.5 MWp, with an estimated annual production of 2,398 MWh. This will cover 100% of the energy needs for Empresas Iansa’s agricultural operations in both regions through clean, renewable energy generated from solar radiation and top-tier panels. In addition to the solar project, Empresas Iansa maintains a power supply contract as a Free Client with Enel Generación.
Karla Zapata, CEO of Enel X, states, “We are very pleased to share the same vision with Empresas Iansa in addressing the energy transition within the industry, prioritizing renewable energies. These solutions not only contribute to the sustainable operations but also enable the self-generation of energy through the new solar plants, enhancing both competitiveness and operational efficiency.”
“This project allows us to advance towards our commitment to more efficient and responsible agriculture by integrating cutting-edge technology that helps us reduce emissions and optimize resources. Solar energy not only meets 100% of the energy demand of our agricultural operations at these sites but also brings us closer to our goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 19% by 2030. Therefore, this alliance reflects our long-term vision to address climate change with concrete and sustainable solutions,” adds Ramón Cardemil, Agricultural Production Manager for Empresas Iansa.
The impact of this initiative will be seen across 980 hectares of irrigated crops, promoting a sustainable and environmentally responsible production model.
As part of the project’s comprehensive service, it includes engineering, implementation, commissioning, and maintenance. Among the advantages of implementing this type of solution—which is increasingly in demand in the agricultural sector—are reduced energy costs, projected savings of 20%, and the prevention of 485 tons of CO₂e emissions annually, equivalent to the carbon captured by 26,929 trees each year.
