Santiago, December 1, 2023 - On Saturday, December 2nd, Sociedad Hipódromo Chile S.A. will unveil its new intelligent lighting system on the most significant day of the year - the classic St. Leger, which is the second stage of the Triple Crown of Chilean horse racing.
Enel X and Signify replaced the lighting of the racetracks at the Chilean Racecourse, incorporating more efficient technology and improving lighting quality. This has generated a better sporting spectacle for the audience and enhanced television broadcasting for national horse racing enthusiasts.
More than 40,000 people attending the St. Leger will now enjoy an immersive experience thanks to the new lights. A new control system has been installed to manage the efficiency of the lights' consumption, which can be remotely operated and results in energy savings between races. This initiative will pave the way for an unprecedented light show in Chilean horse racing.
The sports lighting project at Hipódromo Chile involved the installation of 424 LED lights that consume low energy, resulting in up to 70% savings in their operation. The installation also included an intelligent control and management system, which provides the facility with electrical infrastructure and high-efficiency lighting.
The track will have a total installed power of 585 KW and will feature the efficient and high-performing Arena Vision LED Gen 3 series luminaires, providing unique lighting quality.
Signify's new luminaires are designed to work seamlessly with their Interact Sports scene management system. This advanced system can integrate with multiple Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, allowing for real-time operation in stadiums and sports venues. This technology will enable spectators to enjoy a revolutionary experience when attending events and shows.
The new intelligent lighting system at Hipódromo Chile will have cutting-edge features for its visitors, including dynamic scene creation, light displays, power alternation and modulation, monitoring, and management from a selected control point, and high-quality race visualization.
Fernando Coloma Correa, president of Hipódromo Chile, highlights how important this innovation is for the venue and the experience of visitors, "this is one of the most important investments that Hipódromo Chile has made in the last decade, and that aims to improve our live show on the racetrack and also benefit the television transmission with better sharpness and resolution, which will undoubtedly highly valued by our customers in Chile and also abroad. This lighting will make us more energy efficient and environmentally friendly."
Enel X is responsible for implementing, operating, and maintaining the project for ten years. According to Karla Zapata, General Manager of Enel X, the task at Hipódromo Chile is a powerful signal that the entertainment and sporting industries demand the highest quality of their presentations. The alliance between Enel X and Signify has enabled the project to benefit from their combined know-how and expertise. The Hipódromo Chile, an essential venue of significant size and high frequency of races, has achieved energy efficiency and sustainability and put itself on par with the most prominent sporting venues in the world that utilize similar technology. People looking forward to such advancements and improvements have widely appreciated and celebrated the new lighting system.
The intelligent lighting project developed for Hipódromo Chile helps reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 345 tons per year, equivalent to planting 862 trees.
Enel X has undertaken multiple sports lighting initiatives, including developing new lighting for the Coliseum of the National Stadium for the Panamerican and Parapanamerican Games Santiago 2023. Additionally, Enel X has implemented sports lighting solutions at the Davis Cup Tennis Club Union de Viña del Mar and the Chile ATP Open Santiago 250. This project is a part of Enel X's ongoing efforts to improve sports lighting infrastructure.
