  • The electroterminal, located in the La Pintana district, will have 18 chargers for 107 new electric buses, which will benefit more than 55 thousand residents, who will improve their quality of life through the latest electric standard of metropolitan public transport.

Santiago, November 22, 2022 - With the launch of the Electroterminal La Pintana, located at Avenida Santa Rosa 15000, built by Enel X, and operated by SUBUS, we conclude with the first implementation stage of the Santa Rosa Corridor. The project adds 107 new electric buses to the Metropolitan Region's public transportation system.

The project is in addition to the 15 electroterminals implemented by Enel X in the same region, which include 18 chargers directed toward new electric buses. Buses will travel the streets of districts such as La Pintana, San Joaquín, and Puente Alto, connecting them daily with the center of Santiago and neighborhoods in the northern zone, such as Recoleta and Huechuraba.

Electric buses of Chinese brand Foton will run on the Santa Rosa exclusive bus lane, which has been progressively incorporated into the Santiago public transportation system, were acquired by Enel X, and delivered to SUBUS under an operating lease.

The new electric buses will benefit more than 55 thousand people in eleven communes: La Pintana, Puente Alto, San Bernardo, San Ramón, La Granja, San Miguel, Santiago, Independencia, Conchalí, Recoleta, and Huechuraba. Since it arrived in Chile in 2017, users have evaluated this technology positively, achieving a score above 6.0.

"The new La Pintana Electroterminal has the necessary electrical infrastructure to absorb the energy demand of the new buses and a system of charging points that allows the energy to be supplied flexibly by being able to manage the power and charging schedules. This public-private effort is a new sign that it is possible to accelerate the goal of electrifying 100% of Santiago's public transport by 2040". said Karla Zapata, General Manager of Enel X Chile.

"To achieve progress in virtuous public-private collaborations is one of our main objectives so that the people in the southern sector of Santiago, especially in La Pintana, receive a quality service with a world-class standard. We are proud and happy for what begins today," said SUBUS Chile general manager Andrés Ocampo Borrero.

Electric buses reduce emissions and noise levels. The new machines also have the advantages of a universal accessibility ramp, kneeling suspension systems, double and preferential seats, yellow and corrugated demarcated pillars for people with limited vision, anti-trap door system, among other features.

The new fleet of electric buses that SUBUS will operate will not only reduce the environmental impact, contributing to the decontamination of the city but will also generate operational savings of approximately 70% compared to diesel buses.
