• Residents of the Eduardo Frei Montalva Park in La Florida will have free 5g WI FI, camera circuit, sensors for measuring air quality and noise, charging points for electric vehicles, and a security totem linked to the municipality. The latter will favor the delivery of information and connectivity with people.

Santiago, December 9, 2021 – A traditional space of more than 23,000 mt2, marked by its green areas, bicycle paths, exercise machines, and playgrounds, was transformed into the first Smart Park in Latin America. This project was possible thanks to Enel X's technological intervention project developed with the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, the Municipality of La Florida, Wom, and the University of Santiago.

The Eduardo Frei Montalva Park, located where La Florida, Peñalolén, and Macul meet, was inaugurated today by the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt. Also present at the inauguration were the Mayor of La Florida, Rodolfo Carter, the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Francisco Moreno, the General Manager of Wom, Christopher Laska, and Enel X Chile's General Manager, Karla Zapata, who led the opening activity to the community.

One of the main technological innovations of the Smart Park is that it will be the first to have public 5G in Latin America. This fifth-generation mobile network technology allows greater connectivity between devices and instantaneous transmission of information. This is the first 5G band experience, with free WI FI connection in Chile, since its low latency will accelerate the speed of the service, favoring a stable connection.

“With the deployment of 5G, Chile will be ready to move strongly towards Smart Cities. The Chilean telecommunications industry has proven to be at the forefront in the region, and this test shows the scope that the new network will have in favor of urban environments and, consequently, the region's inhabitants”, said the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt, who also explained that “monitoring traffic flow, optimizing mobility and ensuring sustainable economic, social and environmental development are some of the benefits that our country will benefit from being part of the new digital economy 4.0”,

Thanks to this modern equipment implemented in the Eduardo Frei Montalva Park, Floridians that come to enjoy these 23 thousand square meters of green areas will simultaneously be connected. And one of the benefits that I am most happy about, for the safety of my neighbors, is the security totem linked with our Integrated Emergency System 1416. The system offers immediate access to pre-hospital health care and other emergencies that occur in the park”, said La Florida’s mayor, Rodolfo Carter.

“This Smart Park is implemented with communications technologies to share information among different institutions, collect data that is analyzed with Artificial Intelligence to make better decisions and thus determine public policies. By interconnecting different technological solutions, we can prevent accidents, reduce crime, collect information on park usability, and a series of other benefits that will positively impact people's quality of life," said Karla Zapata, Enel X Chile’s general manager.

In a collaborative project between Enel X, Wom, the Undersecretary of Telecommunications (Subtel), the University of Santiago de Chile (Usach), and the Municipality of La Florida, the Eduardo Frei Montalva Park, located at Avenida Departamental and Avenida La Florida intersection, will have an electric-vehicle charging station, video analysis cameras, and an Ios sensor system that detects electricity and water consumption, noise levels, air quality, and humidity. In addition, the new space has public Wi-Fi/5G with a captive portal for citizen consultation and a security totem with a panic button, all interconnected systems that will substantially improve the quality of life of the neighbors of the commune.

Video analytics

The camera system allows studying and measuring traffic, detecting speed, and measuring parking lot occupancy. The park has four high-resolution cameras that capture images that, with a system based on algorithms and Artificial Intelligence, make it possible to detect behavior and thus make decisions based on the information received and recorded.

The cameras also have the mission to maintain surveillance and capture public space information. They can detect smoke and flames, intruders, loitering, and abandoned objects, allowing access control and crowd recognition. Also, in keeping with current times, and as a way to contain issues associated with people's health in the pandemic, they can measure body temperature, detect the use of masks, and social distancing.

Intelligent street equipment and sensors

Its purpose is to provide greater security to the community. To this end, the Smart Park also includes a panic button, a front camera, and a loudspeaker. It also has a built-in microphone, USB chargers, and an LED light.

The park also has environmental sensors that will measure electricity and water consumption, air quality, noise levels, and pool water quality.

As future cities will be represented by electromobility, the park has a Juice Pole charging station for electric vehicles, which has two connection sockets for charging two electric cars simultaneously.

Public Wi-Fi and citizen participation

The public 5G Wi-Fi is unique and will provide an advanced and free telecommunications service to all its users. The system connects people with the municipality using the Citizen Participation Portal. In it, visitors will learn about community news, give their opinion on various topics and express their level of satisfaction with the park. On the other hand, the municipality will deliver information and know the users' views to make better decisions in a bidirectional interaction with the neighbors.
