As part of the agreement signed to reduce its carbon footprint:

  • This is their first joint project, consisting of implementing a 280 kWp photovoltaic panel system for self-generated renewable energy, which would lead to an estimated annual reduction of more than 170 tons of CO2.

Santiago, December 21, 2021 - The hardware suppliers’ association Red Ferretera MTS has signed at its main offices a collaborative agreement with Enel X to jointly develop energy efficiency projects and reduced its carbon footprint. The activity was attended by Karla Zapara, CEO of Enel X and Pablo Montané, CEO of Red Ferretera MTS.

The first project to be carried out under this partnership will be to build a photovoltaic plant at MTS' central building in the Cerrillos municipality. The plant will consist of 280 kWp panels that operate under the distributed generation law, allowing for the use of renewable sources to generate electric energy for self-consumption. This will enable savings in energy bills and help mitigate the impact of climate change.

MTS, which has a network of more than 44 partners and 150 points of sale across Chile, estimates that the new plant will help it reduce its CO2 emissions by 170.1 tons annually. The delivery date for the project is scheduled for May 2022.

"The main thing is to create awareness about what we are doing in terms of sustainability and about the urgency of the climate situation we are facing. We need to address this with the right partners so that we can scale these solutions quickly. That is what has motivated us to work with Enel X. We have the joint challenge of setting ourselves objectives that transcend the business world and taking actions that go above and beyond the normal limits," said Red Ferretera MTS' CEO , Pablo Montané.

Our objective is to implement energy solutions in 300 locations between Arica and Punta Arenas and to develop electromobility projects.

The project, which will be MTS’ first photovoltaic system, will have a capacity of 406.27 MWh and could be replicated at different branches of the company around the country.

"Today, MTS has become our new energy partner. Together, we will work to develop energy efficiency solutions with the common purpose of helping to fight climate change and to reduce emissions of particulate matter and CO2. This photovoltaic solution is a clear example of the important it is for companies like MTS to be environmentally aware in order to take steps to protect the environment from a business perspective," said Enel X's CEO, Karla Zapata.

In addition, by leveraging Chile's largest hardware network this will facilitate the development of an electromobility platform and the installation of electric vehicle charging points for MTS' network of associates across the country. Furthermore, MTS has already started working with Enel X to develop internal policies for its hardware network aimed at energy efficiency and the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions.
