  • The charger was installed next to the Nueva Angostura toll booth and is the first of five to be implemented on Route 5 South, which connects Santiago and Talca.
  • This new milestone is part of the "ElectroRuta Enel X" project, the most ambitious electromobility plan in Latin America, including installing 1,200 charging points throughout Chile from Arica to Punta Arenas.
  • Ruta del Maipo also presented the first electric vehicle that will operate on Chilean roads.

Paine, July 15, 2021. As part of Enel X's public infrastructure plan, Ruta del Maipo, an ISA INTERVIAL concessionaire, installed its first fast-charging point for electric vehicles on the road. The 50kW JuicePump charger was installed next to the new Angostura toll, at kilometer 54 of Route 5 South, connecting Santiago and Talca.

Juice Pump is the first of five chargers installed along the Ruta del Maipo, enabling connectivity through an electric car between the Metropolitan and Maule regions.

This charging point is equipped with full smart grid integration, power adaptation, and mobile connectivity that allows remote control and maintenance, meeting leading vehicle charging standards currently on the market, and can charge a vehicle in 35 minutes.

Miguel Carrasco, General Manager of Ruta del Maipo, said: "We are happy to continue promoting sustainable mobility in our country with the installation of five electric chargers in Ruta del Maipo. This milestone will allow users who own electric vehicles to travel with peace of mind on our route, which runs from the Metropolitan Region to the border of the Maule Region to the south, promoting the private use of clean energy. At the same time, we are proud to announce that we have become the first concessioned route in the country to have an electric vehicle in its fleet, as another example of our environmental commitment to the country and new generations."

By 2025, it is estimated that there will be more than 81,000 electric vehicles in Chile. ElectroRuta Enel X plans to cover more than 50% of the energy charging infrastructure required by these cars, projecting a charger every 60 kilometers on Chile's roads.

“Electric mobility is a strategic pillar for Enel X, as it is a key element in moving towards a cleaner energy matrix that contributes to reducing pollution in cities. This charging infrastructure plan for electric vehicles is another example of the company's commitment to accelerate the country's decarbonization process", explained Karla Zapata, Enel X's general manager.

To use the charging infrastructure, those who have electric vehicles can install Enel X's "JuicePass" application on their cell phones. With the app, they will access and manage all the charging services in a more straightforward way. With a single click, they will have access to diverse information, such as checking the type of connectors, power of the charging stations, and different profiles and tariff plans.
