Awarded by the Energy Ministry and the Energy Sustainability Agency:

  • This important award reflects the commitment of the company, which in 2011 installed the first charging point in Chile and Latin America. This kicked off the spread of electric mobility in Chile in public and private transport and have contributed to the protection of the environment and decontamination of cities.
  • The 2020 version of the award, which is presented in 2021, recognizes advances made in the areas of sustainability, electromobility, operational excellence and renewable energy.

Santiago, May 12, 2021 - Enel X has received the 2020 Energy Excellence Seal in the category of "Efficient Transportation and Electromobility", from the Energy Ministry and Energy Sustainability Agency. The authorities seek to promote and recognize best practices in sectors such as industry and services, higher education, the public sector, and micro and small businesses nationwide.

The award recognizes Enel X's determined and permanent contribution to the spread of electric mobility. The company was the first to install an electroline station in Latin America in 2011, and marked the start of electromobility in Chile.

This process continued in 2014, when Enel X tested the first electric bus route in Santiago, measuring energy consumption, efficiency, and costs, while analyzing variables when faced with changes in traffic conditions, numbers of passengers and travel speeds.

Thanks to a public-private alliance between Enel X, Metbus and BYD, some 435 electric buses were formally introduced to Santiago's public transport system in 2017. Today, these buses have made a real contribution to reducing pollution in the city.

“Enel X has been promoting electric mobility for more than 10 years in Chile. We are convinced that we were right in betting on electromobility and we will continue to make progress to fulfill our commitment to the transport of the future, making it not only more environmentally friendly, but also more efficient. We are proud to receive this award. It encourages us to continue pushing for the transition to clean energy through the electrification of transport and will help us address important challenges such as pollution in our cities,” said Karla Zapata, general manager of Enel X Chili.

The Energy Excellence seal also recognizes Enel X's ElectroRuta initiative, the most ambitious electromobility project in Latin America, which the company launched at the beginning of 2020. The project consists of installing 1,200 charging points throughout Chile until 2025 that will enable electric cars to travel 5,000 kilometers, from north to south, with guaranteed autonomy. As of December 2020, 177 charging points had been installed in different regions of the country and in 2021, Enel X expects to implement 140 more.

There are currently around 1,000 electric cars operating in the country and that number is projected to reach 81,000 by 2025. The ElectroRuta plan will cover more than 50% of the charging infrastructure required by electric cars by then, with a projecting one charger per 60 kilometers of road.

The company aims to meet different customer needs by implementing various smart charging technologies that allow vehicle batteries to be charged at different speeds and at different locations. These are modular, scalable and turnkey solutions designed for individuals, companies and institutions.

The Seal of Energy Excellence recognizes energy initiatives that boost organizational competitiveness and productivity while significantly reducing operating costs, mitigating risks of energy price volatility and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The 2020 version of the award recognizes advances made in the areas of sustainability, electromobility, operational excellence and renewable energy.
