  • For this race, which is taking place in Chile for the first time, twelve Juice Pump 50 race edition chargers will supply electricity for each of the ten participating teams, with an additional two installed in the control tent, capable of recharging with a power of 50kW.

Calama, September 23, 2022: The race will take place on September 24 and 25 in one of the driest deserts in the world, the Atacama Desert. Extreme E is a category of electric off-road cars racing in the most extreme places on the planet and those affected most by climate change. The race, therefore, seeks to raise awareness of this problem.

The drivers arrived in Calama, where the race's first stage was held, with Enel X Way providing the necessary charging infrastructure for the competition.

“For this race, which is in Chile for the first time, there will be twelve Juice Pump chargers, one for each participating team (ten in total) and two more in the control tent. The chargers are capable of charging up to 50 kW, thus providing clean energy throughout the race”, said Jean-Paul Zalaquett, General Manager of Enel X Way.

The executive explained the motivation behind the decision to participate in the event: “We want to promote electromobility, bringing it to all sectors and all types of use. Extreme E shows that sustainability can occur even in these types of activities. 100% electric cars in one of the driest deserts in the world, generating awareness. The shift to electrification is needed to protect the environment."

He added that, in Chile, Enel X Way is working hard to incorporate 1,200 charging points by 2026. The company’s commitment is to have an ElectroRoute with electric chargers every sixty kilometers. Several important agreements have been signed in the public and private spheres to achieve this.

Guinness Altitude World Record

With the corresponding charging networks, e-mobility is capable of reaching all corners. Last June, the electric car driven by long-distance professional Rainer Zietlow broke the Guinness World Record for altitude, revealing how reliable electric vehicles can be even at 5,816 meters in the mountains

. The driver and his team headed off from Santiago and were supplied with electric chargers by Enel X Way. The chargers were installed in Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia, the three countries through which the electric car made its journey.
