  • Funding of over 1.6 billion pesos was given to the city of Coronel for land surveys and construction of the new school.

Coronel, July 15, 2020 – In line with Enel Generación Chile's collaborative work in the community of Coronel, it solidified the delivery of funding promised for the construction of a new site for the city's emblematic Rosa Medel School.

“We have announced our decision to push up the closure of Bocamina as part of our decarbonization plan, but this does not mean that we will not follow through with our other commitments, including new Rosa Medel School,” explains CEO of Enel Generación, Michele Siciliano.

In this respect, the city of Coronel received over 1.6 billion pesos to build the new Rosa Medel school. Today the educational establishment is located next to the Bocamina plant, in the middle of a highly industrialized zone. Thanks to this funding, it will be rebuilt and relocated in the La Peña neighborhood of Coronel, a residential area that is home to some of the families that were resettled in the new home assignment process carried out by the company and the Housing and Urban Development Service.

“One more step towards fulfilling our commitments to the Coronel community. The delivery of these funds solidifies the agreement made with the city government and the parents’ committee, which established the school's reconstruction at the site assigned and agreed by all parties involved,” indicates Antonella Pellegrini, Sustainability Manager for Enel Chile.

This donation by Enel Generación Chile to the Coronel City Government will cover the total construction and relocation of the emblematic Rosa Medel School, a preschool and elementary school establishment that is an important part of the history and identity of the families in its educational community.
