- The project, which is part of an expansion plan authorized by the National Energy Commission, required an investment of more than US$4 million.
Santiago, June 2, 2021. Enel Distribución's CEO Ramón Castañeda, accompanied by the mayor of Peñalolén, Carolina Leitao, inspected the newly expanded Macul Substation, which supplies energy to more than 77,000 customers in the Macul and Peñalolén municipalities.
The expansion project included the installation of medium voltage cells that will allow the evacuation of energy through eight new distribution lines (equivalent to an increase of 57%) both to meet demand from new consumption and as contingency support for the current network. This will improve reliability of supply to Enel Distribución customers.
“With the expansion of the Macul Substation, Enel Distribución will add capacity to meet the growth in electricity consumption of its current customers. At the same time, the added capacity will supply the existing electrical charging stations in the substation's area of influence, connecting about 50,000 new customers in the coming years, and guaranteeing continuous improvement in the quality of service,” said Ramón Castañeda, CEO of Enel Distribución.
The project, which is part of the expansion plan authorized by the National Energy Commission, also contemplates the installation of a new transformer with a capacity of 50,000 kVA (kilo volt-amperes), which will increase transmission levels from 110,000 volts to distribution levels of 12,000 volts. With this change, the substation will increase transformation capacity by 18% and improve backup capacity in the event of contingencies.
The Macul Substation expansion project required an investment of more than US$4 million. It was completed over 24 months without any accidents and overcame the complex and challenging conditions of the pandemic.
