- This year, 169 technical-professional education students will participate in the program's sixth edition, which has benefited more than 570 young people since 2022 and has contributed to the hiring of 45 participants in the electrical sector.
To strengthen human capital development for the challenges of the energy transition, Enel Distribución launched a new version of Energy of the Future, a program that has since 2022 complemented the training of students in electrical specialties through practical experiences, specialized training, and direct engagement with the industry.
In this sixth edition, 169 students will benefit from the initiative, including 98 from Ignacio Domeyko Bicentennial High School, 41 from the Alberto Hurtado Educational Center, and 30 from Duoc UC. About 30% of the participants are expected to be women, helping promote increased female involvement in technical fields.
“Working with Enel enhances our value as an industrial school by enriching the knowledge we provide to our students.” Mauricio Rivas, coordinator of the Electricity specialty at the Alberto Hurtado Educational Center, comments.
Energía del Futuro integrates theoretical instruction at educational institutions with hands-on training in specially equipped facilities. This combined approach enables students to gain real-world experience, enhance their technical skills, and cultivate a strong safety culture—an essential aspect of success in the electrical industry.
“We find it highly valuable that our students learn about electrical distribution, how to work at heights, or repair appliances, for example, and that they do so under the guidance of specialized teachers.”, Carlos López, director of the Ignacio Domeyko Bicentennial High School, explains.
Supported by Chile Dual and SOFOFA, the program provides mentorships led by experts from partner companies. These connections enable participants to better understand the challenges and opportunities within the energy sector. By linking education with industry, the program fosters support networks, internships, and prepares young people more effectively for future workforce integration.
Training for the electric grids of the future
The program encompasses key knowledge and technologies crucial for advancing the energy industry, including electrification, smart measurement, distributed generation, grid digitalization, splicing services, and electric distribution networks. Additionally, it covers other skills essential for the safe and efficient operation of future networks..
Since its launch in 2022, Energy of the Future has emerged as a crucial initiative for nurturing talent in the electric industry, benefiting over 570 students and leading to the hiring of 45 young technicians by sector-related companies.
This program enables Enel Distribución to reaffirm its commitment to improving technical and vocational education, with a focus on safety, innovation, and inclusion, while also supporting the development of future leaders in the country's energy transition.
