- This is an increase from 2024, when nearly 1,500 accidents were recorded within its concession area in the Metropolitan Region.
- Every day, six electric poles are damaged, disrupting the energy supply for hundreds of customers.
Enel Distrubición reiterated its call for prevention and responsible driving after recording an increase in accidents affecting its electrical infrastructure. In 2025, across the 33 municipalities within its concession area, 2,042 collisions with utility poles were recorded, up from 1,492 in 2024. This rise averages about 6 damaged poles per day, with a consequent impact on the continuity of service for thousands of customers.
Each of these accidents causes damage or destruction to electrical infrastructure, such as poles, transformers, and cables, leaving an average of 1,700 people without power, affecting homes, businesses, families, and essential services in the Metropolitan Region.
Hitting a pole worsens the consequences of a traffic accident: it endangers lives, causes prolonged power outages, and results in high economic costs. When a pole falls due to a collision, the consequences extend beyond repairs. The area becomes electrified, with exposed and hanging cables that pose a risk to drivers, passengers, and anyone nearby. Additionally, power must be cut preventively, and traffic must be diverted so that specialized technical teams can work safely. Repairs can take more than 10 hours, depending on the extent of the damage.
The average repair cost for each damaged pole is $ 1,285,000, a sum that, under current regulations, must be covered by the party responsible for the accident. These emergency repairs require the immediate intervention of technical and operational teams, which involve reallocating human and material resources originally designated for other tasks. As a result, some scheduled projects aimed at strengthening resilience and advancing the digitalization of the electrical grid are disrupted, key initiatives for developing a more modern and reliable infrastructure.
Enel Distribución reiterates its commitment to people's safety and the continuity of electricity supply, but emphasizes that reducing these accidents largely depends on responsible driving. The company maintains an active digital awareness campaign, through which it provides recommendations and highlights the impact these incidents have on the community and electrical infrastructure.
