- The installation of two new feeders, totaling 5.8 miles in length, will provide a more reliable and higher-capacity power supply to approximately 54,000 customers in Lampa and Quilicura. This project is part of a construction plan that includes deploying seventeen feeders of this type.
In line with its plan for ongoing operational improvement, Enel Distribución has added new electrical infrastructure in the northern part of the Metropolitan Region. These are two new feeders, strengthening the city's electrical distribution system.
Alongside Enel Group executives and authorities, he inaugurated the Rapel and Imperial feeders in the municipality of Lampa: medium-voltage overhead and underground cables covering 5.8 kilometers that deliver energy to the distribution network, supply various transformers, and support the increasing demand in the area.
The infrastructure also functions as a backup system, equipped with ten remote control devices that allow loads to be transferred remotely from other feeders if there is a failure or disconnection, thereby enhancing response and restoration times.
“We are commissioning two new main arteries that will supply power to areas of Lampa and Quilicura. As we expand our network, we strengthen our capacity to meet the growing consumption of residents and improve our response to severe weather events. In particular, Lampa, an open and semi-rural area, is exposed to stronger winds than other parts of Santiago. Therefore, having a more robust network allows us to offer higher-quality service and ensure a more resilient infrastructure," explains Francisco Messen, Construction, Operations, and Maintenance Manager at Enel Distribución.
The initiative will benefit around 54,000 customers in Lampa. "We would like to highlight Enel's efforts to improve the electricity system in our municipality. They have introduced the new feeder, which operates automatically. This advancement will help us be better prepared during emergencies like last year to maintain or quickly restore the electricity supply. This is a crucial step because it demonstrates the company's commitment to continuously improving this essential service for our residents," said Jonathan Opazo, mayor of Lampa.
The project is part of the company's annual investment plan, and fifteen other feeders have been developed at various locations in the metropolitan area. As part of a construction plan, seventeen new feeders are being launched this year, with nine already operational. This includes installing electrical networks, remote-controlled equipment, and digital infrastructure to ensure the system operates quickly and efficiently, creating a more modern and resilient network.
