- The lighting renovation project has been in progress for seven years, benefiting over 100,000 individuals.
- The improvements will prevent more than 500 kg of CO2e per year.
Committed to promoting energy efficiency in the communities, Enel Distribución celebrated the opening of a newly renovated multipurpose court featuring improved lighting in the municipality of Quinta Normal. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the municipality and the Villa San Vicente Pallotti Neighborhood Council, enabled the community to gather once again in this space for recreational activities and to receive recognition from local authorities and company executives.
"The court is the playground for our children, for all the children of the village. Enel upgraded and protected the system, allowing the children to go outside and play in a safe space," said Verónica Pezo, president of the Villa San Vicente Pallotti neighborhood council in Quinta Normal.
The project is part of a long-term strategy to enhance access to more efficient, safe, and affordable energy for the communities in the concession area. Beyond being more environmentally friendly, the new luminaires use 37% less energy and will prevent the emission of over 500 kg of CO₂e annually while lowering operating costs.
"This project not only contributes to doubling the energy efficiency rate but also addresses safety gaps in the Metropolitan Region. This has been made possible through excellent collaboration with the community and the municipality," said Camila De la Quintana, who is responsible for Sustainability and Circular Economy at Enel Distribución.
The community space recovery program will celebrate its seventh year of operation in 2025. It has intervened in 56 sites across 16 communes in the Metropolitan Region, benefiting over 115,000 people from various organizations. These improvements enhance the neighborhood environment by providing safer and more sustainable lighting systems, which promote community life and encourage healthy recreation.
"These alliances allow us to recover public spaces. Finally, all major projects must have an energy efficiency seal," said Karina Delfino, Quinta Normal's mayor.
