- The project aims to expand to the 33 municipalities in the company's concession area this year.
Energy Efficiency has proven to be essential to move toward sustainable development, as it considers environmental, economic, and social impacts. As a result, Enel Distribución has carried out annual talks on responsible electricity consumption and the efficient use of energy. Through this initiative, we seek to promote individual changes aimed at reducing the energy poverty gap and raising awareness regarding how their energy use impacts the environment, family budget, and quality of life.
Enel Distribución launched its Energy Efficiency Talks project within the framework of the World Energy Efficiency Day celebrations, which were held this time in the municipality of Independencia. Mayor Gonzalo Durán, meteorologist Gianfranco Marcone, Chile Weather & Environment, EBP Chile, and representatives of the company's Sustainability area attended the opening event.
The Energy Efficiency Day has sought to encourage the conscious and responsible use of energy, actively promoting renewable energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. This event marks the start of Enel Distribución's iconic project, involving critical discussions addressing issues related to energy efficiency.
A crucial part of Enel Distribución's Energy Efficiency Talks project focuses on workshops developed jointly with different organizations and municipalities within the concession area. The objective is to encourage conscious habits in local communities through sustainable strategies, thus guiding the transition process towards clean and safe energy sources.
In 2023, the project covered 26 municipalities, with a total of 3,510 participants attending various activities. An energy efficiency study was conducted among those who participated, revealing a persistent dependence on fossil fuels, and evidencing the need to improve electrical appliance efficiency for heating, cooking, and domestic hot water.
"We aim to promote responsible energy use in households by organizing workshops and talks. Our goal is to promote sustainable behavior and protect the environment without compromising people's quality of life. To achieve this, we plan to provide training on specific topics such as the just energy transition, types of energy, and efficient energy use in homes," explained Camila de la Quintana, head of Sustainability and Circular Economy at Enel Distribución.
By 2024, this project aims to expand to all 33 municipalities in the company's concession area, with the cycle of workshops beginning in March. Through this initiative, Enel Distribución seeks to respond to Sustainable Development Goal No. 7, "Affordable and clean energy," thus favoring the conservation of natural resources and improving people's living conditions.
