- At the end of the course, participants can obtain a certification from the Superintendencia de Electricidad y Combustibles.
- The initiative opens new job opportunities for women in the energy sector.
Enel Distribución, in collaboration with Continuing Education of the Universidad Santo Tomás, starts a new stage of the Training Project for Home Electricity Installers in the communes of Santiago, Lo Espejo, and Maipú as part of its dedication to the Just Energy Transition.
This year's initiative, exclusively for women, seeks to train 25 participants to obtain class D certification before the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels (SEC). This project aligns with the 2022-2026 Agenda of the Ministry of Energy, particularly in reducing the gender gaps in the electricity industry. Thus, besides promoting employment in local communities, it provides the opportunity for entrepreneurship in this field.
"We continue to take decisive steps to promote gender equality and labor insertion in the electricity sector through technical training aimed at women. This innovative program not only seeks to close the gender gap but also to provide real employment opportunities in our industry," said Camila De la Quintana, head of Sustainability and Circular Economy at Enel Distribución. "We are excited to see the passion and motivation of the future female electrical installers. With this course, we are paving the way for more women to be able to perform in key roles within the electrical industry," she added.
The course lasts almost three months with 90 theoretical and more than 100 practical hours, where participants acquire fundamental knowledge and skills to become highly trained professionals. As a result, they can conduct safe, dependable, and quality installations to perform risk-free work. Once they have passed all the modules, they will have the possibility of becoming SEC certified.
"I am here taking advantage of an opportunity to expand my knowledge. This is not just a field for men, women have potential, and we can develop it," said Karina Moraga, a former student, about her motivations.
In October 2022, Enel Distribución successfully inaugurated the first version of the Training Project for Household Electrical Installers thanks to the opportunities provided by the Just Energy Transition, in which 14 women graduated. In this new stage, the initiative continues with the support of the Universidad Santo Tomás and the collaboration of the Department of Women and Gender Equality of the Municipality of Santiago and the Women's Offices of the municipalities of Lo Espejo and Maipú.
"It is a great inspiration not only to see what you do for yourself but also to see what my classmates do with their different abilities," said Benazir Castillo, a course graduate, about her experience training with other women.
This project seeks to provide women with technical knowledge in trades relevant to electrical distribution, enabling them to take a leading role in risk prevention, improve their employment options and empower themselves in this field of work.
