- The host country of the global fair will be announced in October of next year. Rome plans to offer a unique setting to put urban regeneration into focus.
September 13, 2022 - Italy announced the launch of Rome's candidacy to host the Expo2030 world's fair under the theme "People and territories: urban regeneration, inclusion, and innovation." The Italian Embassy in Santiago will stage an event next Tuesday, September 20, at 6 p.m. to present Rome Expo2030, also announcing the winners of the "Italy Creative Energy" competition, held in conjunction with Enel Chile.
"Italy is a leader in Europe in matters of sustainability and circularity. For example, almost 70% of waste, including industrial waste, is recycled," says Mauro Battocchi, Italy's ambassador to Chile. "Rome is a city that has regenerated over the centuries, modernizing itself without losing its charm and diversity. That is what we believe makes it the ideal setting for all countries, and Chile above all, to show the world their successes in making their cities sustainable, circular, and inclusive."
For some time now, Italy has been wagering on Chile's ability to become a benchmark in Latin America in sustainability due to significant investments by Italian companies to contribute to decarbonization and electrification. "For the Enel group, Chile is an ideal laboratory to develop advanced and disruptive technological projects, capable of becoming benchmarks in innovation and the environment," highlights Fabrizio Barderi, Enel Chile's General Manager. "For instance, we have led the electrification of public transport in the capital, we put into operation the first hybrid plant on an industrial scale in the Atacama Desert, and we are leaders of the first green hydrogen pilot project in the outermost south of Patagonia."
It should be noted that the Embassy, the Italian Institute of Culture, and Enel Chile have jointly conducted the "Italy Creative Energy" initiative to bring people closer to sustainability issues and the role of science in everyday life. Among other things, it brought the exhibition "Italy: The Art of Science" to the city of Concepción, which received nearly 9,000 visitors at the city's University Art Gallery.
At the ceremony to be held on September 20, one lucky winner will receive a scholarship. To further their studies in Italy with a research project on: "the systemic integration of LCA Eco-design for phases of photovoltaic installation, operations, and maintenance environmentally friendlier in desert climates with high radiation levels". Additionally, the winner of a photography competition on sustainable mobility will be awarded an electric bicycle.
