Rome, September 20th, 2022 – Global leaders gather again in New York, after two years of online events, with the Enel Group joining the 77th UN General Assembly and Sustainability Week, taking place from September 19-23.
The Group will share its views and insights on the main topics provided by the event agenda such as the global crisis on food, energy and finance, the promotion of sustained economic growth and sustainable development, the promotion of justice and a new business approach to governance.
Enel is among the sponsors of Climate Week, the most important climate-related event globally, which is in its 14th edition this year. Set up by The Climate Group, the initiative aims at pushing for a stronger commitment to the environment, by putting into action all the tasks needed to tackle climate change.
On September 19th, Enel CEO and General Manager Francesco Starace met UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, together with other CEOs from the UN Global Compact (UNGC). On the same day, he joined the UNGC event Global Africa Business Initiative, participating in a panel on Just Energy Transition for Africa. Starace was also part of the Private Sector Forum (PSF), the meeting that convenes the most dedicated CEOs from UNGC companies and representatives from Governments and UN agencies, through a panel on finance and investments required to promote renewables and sustainable development.
Moreover, Francesco Starace is the Chair of SEforALL (Sustainable Energy for All), the international initiative which plays an active role during the UN General Assembly week, aiming at intensifying electrification efforts, guaranteeing universal access to reliable, modern and affordable energy services and thus achieving goal number 7 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Enel Group was also represented by its CFO Alberto De Paoli, who joined the UNGC SDG Investment Forum, the meeting which brings together CFOs, sustainability experts and investors to exchange views on how corporate investments and finance can best contribute to the SDGs. This year’s event also saw the participation of Enel’s General Counsel Giulio Fazio, who on September 19th opened the Legal Hour at the PSF dedicated to the new UN Global Compact initiative on Transformational Governance, which aims at expanding the role of legal professionals in sustainability driving business decisions, and which Enel will lead as Patron.
The high-level participation of the international gathering in New York highlights once again the Group’s alignment with the climate and sustainable development topics discussed by the United Nations, as well as the leading role Enel wants to continue to play in reinforcing its strong commitment towards a zero carbon future fueled by the acceleration of renewable development and electrification.
