Energy Transition Roadmap
Enel Foundation and Universidad del Desarrollo start participatory talks around the “Chile Territorio Futuro” project
Published on Thursday, 23 June 2022
- Around 100 specialists were invited to reflect on innovative proposals for living with uncertainty in times of climate change, moving towards energy and food transition, and strengthening circular economy in terms of sustainable productivity, among other relevant topics.
- The initiative looks to create an open and interdisciplinary space where, during nine months, they will identify the modeling forces of change and the necessary actions to proactively address the scenarios for 2030-2050 in Chile.
Santiago, June 23, 2022 How do we imagine Chile 30 years down the road? The importance of reflecting on possible future scenarios has become a social need, and the short-term perspectives to address the upcoming decades now seem insufficient, as multiple perspectives are required to recognize the key drivers of change in a country.
In this context, Chile Territorio Futuro offers a space to come together. It is an initiative that, beyond the current contingency, looks to generate a space for dialogue through an extensive invitation to participate. It is an open exercise coordinated by the Center for Innovation in Cities of the Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) Faculty of Architecture and Art and promoted by the Enel Foundation, which issues a call to analyze the main trends, opportunities, and challenges to be faced by the country over the next 30 years.
It was formally launched last April and advances today thanks to initial conversations held by an interdisciplinary group of around 100 experts who, guided by a methodology specially-designed for this project, will contribute perspectives from the social sphere, public sector, private sector, and academia to publish an unprecedented study.
Thus, over the course of nine months, this work team will meet in different reflection spaces to identify emerging signals and factors of change to compose proposals and tools that will open up a debate on the possible scenarios for Chile in the 2030-2050 period. Their work will extend into early 2023, when it is expected that they will deliver a study consolidating the prospective scenarios and most desirable path alternatives to contribute to the country's development.
“The Enel Foundation is the center for strategic studies of the Enel Group. We carry out both research and training projects, mainly within the framework of energy transition. We are interested in topics of technology, development scenarios, and socioeconomic impact. For that reason, we are proud to be part of such a project, which has a geographic approach of great interest to us,” said Christian Zulberti, Deputy Director for the Enel Foundation, during the experts’ first work meeting held last week.
“The Universidad del Desarrollo, through its Center for Innovation in Cities, is just the host of this initiative, because the goal is that the over 100 guest experts will represent the different points of view that we are looking for in order to project and propose better future scenarios, and distancing ourselves in a way from the current context,” says Pablo Allard, Dean of the UDD Faculty of Architecture and Art.
Over the next few months, we will begin to identify and systematize the specialists’ different perspectives based on expert knowledge, data science, applied research, and field work to then prioritize the desirable scenario and generate a vision and goal by topic, activating strategies and actions for its development. Proposals and concrete actions discussed by the diverse social players will be shared in order to advance towards desirable scenarios for Chile of the future.
