Energy Transition Roadmap
Enel Foundation and Universidad del Desarrollo present a roadmap for the “Chile Territorio Futuro” project
Published on Tuesday, 12 April 2022

The initiative looks to create an open and interdisciplinary space to imagine the possible future scenarios for Chile. During nine months of dialogue and participation, they will identify the modeling forces of change and necessary actions to proactively address the Chile scenarios for the 2030-2050 period.
The project will bring together around 100 experts to focus on rethinking our environment for a better quality of life and well-being, how to live in community with the uncertainty of climate change, the energy and food transition as a strategy for the future, circular economy aimed at sustainable productivity, and new governance and cooperation models for the territory.
Santiago, April 12, 2022. The global pandemic, climate change, growing social inequality, scarcity and availability issues, new disruptive technologies, new behaviors, and social values. Chile is rethinking its strategy and finds itself in a new transition, a profound change; the old paradigms have died and the new ones have not yet solidified. All of this makes the short-term perspectives to address future scenarios insufficient.
Chile Territorio Futuro (in English, Chile: Future Territory) is an initiative coordinated by the Center for Innovation in Cities of the UDD Faculty of Architecture and Art and promoted by the Enel Foundation, which looks to create a space for dialogue among a large number of participants.
Over nine months, a team of 100 experts will meet to reflect on and identify emerging signals and trends of change to put together proposals and tools in order to open up a debate on the possible scenarios for Chile in the 2030-2050 period. Their work will extend into late 2022, when they are expected to offer alternative prospective scenarios.
This morning, the Enel Group CEO and Chairman of the Enel Foundation, Francesco Starace, the President of UDD, Federico Valdés, the Pro-Rector and Vice-Rector of Postgraduate, Continuing Education and Extension of UDD, Ernesto Silva Méndez, and the Italian Ambassador, Mauro Battocchi participated in the project presentation.
“At Enel, we care about reaffirming our commitment to sustainable development for all over time. Through the ‘Chile Territorio Futuro’ project, we are precisely interested in addressing the key topics for the future country aligned with that objective. But we also want to do so from a collective vision, which is why the space is open to civil society, academia, the corporate world, and public and private research organizations, in order to join forces in the identification of the trends, gaps, and challenges in today's world. As a result, we hope to offer proposals to improve the quality of life,” explains Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel Group and Chairman of the Enel Foundation.
“We at UDD are very happy to participate in this initiative which, through the different perspectives and disciplines, looks to contribute to a better quality of life and reinforce our commitment to sustainability. We know that Chile will face many challenges over the coming years and decades, and these imply changes and transitions across different areas that will directly impact our environment. For this reason, as a University we are proud to place all of our human and technical capacity at the service of this project, which will allow us to project future scenarios and propose concrete solutions based on the knowledge generated across the different disciplines,” comments UDD President Federico Valdes.
In concrete terms, over the next few months, the project will construct prospective scenarios based on expert knowledge, data science, applied research, and field work to then prioritize the desirable scenario and generate a vision and goal by topic, activating strategies and actions for its development. Proposals and concrete actions regarding the topics and goals addressed will be shared with diverse social players to advance towards desirable scenarios for the Chile of the future.
