María Soledad Arellano Schmidt is a Commercial Engineer with a major in Economics and a Masters in Applied Economics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She obtained her doctorate in economics from MIT in the USA and has published numerous studies in the most prestigious academic journals.
She worked as professor at the Center for Applied Economics at the Universidad de Chile’s Department of Industrial Engineering and later at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez’s School of Government, giving courses in industrial organization (undergraduate and postgraduate) and microeconomics. Her areas of specialization are Industrial Organization and Economic Regulation. She has published several articles in scientific journals.
Between 2006 and March 2010, she served as Deputy Economist Minister of the Free Competition Defense Court. Between March 2010 and March 2014, she served as Undersecretary of Planning and later as Undersecretary of Social Evaluation. As of May 2014, she has been working as Academic Vice-Rector of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez.
She also holds the position of Director in the La Araucana Compensation Fund and in Ecert Chile, and since January 25, 2019, she has been on the Board of Directors of Enel Generación Chile S.A.
